Choir Concert – Gloria I

Choir Concert – Gloria I

First Baptist Church Sunday, December 17, 2017, 7 – 9pm Gloria I First Baptist Church Choir, Handbell Choir and Instrumental Ensemble will be presenting their annual Christmas Concert on Sunday evening, December 17 at 7:00 p.m.  Our featured work is Vivaldi’s Gloria, RV 589, in which the chorus and the instrumental ensemble present contrasting styles of Baroque composition, in the 12 distinct movements of this setting: syllabic, declamatory chorus, imitative and expressive chromatic texture, one movement in a French style with its dotted rhythms, and a powerful, stile antico double fugue; also – an exciting duet, and three solo movements that express the more intimate text of the Gloria, which is itself a hymn of praise.  In addition, we will sing works by Carol Dyck, Bryn Nixon, Philip Stopford, and Camille Saint-Saëns. While admission is free, we would ask you to consider donating to our Organ Restoration Fund.  Our organ underwent a complete restoration in 2016, and it’s better than ever!  Envelopes will be provided for this.  Please join us!
