Perhaps there is something mystical about this otherwise prosaic, if high-traffic, location on Whyte Avenue that inspires unusual-unto- unfathomable naming choices among the hospitality players. For some years, this spot around the corner from the Varscona Hotel went by the moniker Murrietta’s, apparently the handle of a totally obscure California bandit. This seemed to have nothing whatsoever to do with the place or its southern Alberta cousins bearing the same name.
